Events Recap and Other November Stuff

Hey everyone,

We have a lot to get through in a single post, so let’s get the show on the road. First of all, we’d like to give thanks to all members who attended the Pumpkin Carve and Loonie Walk for Water events – it wouldn’t have been such a great success without you. If you weren’t able to attend the events, please wander over to our Picasa albums and take a look at all the fun you missed out!

In the following weeks, we’ll be posting the fundraising results for these two events as well as the results for the Counter Box campaign. So far, it looks as though we may have exceeded our fundraising potential of last year. We’d also like to apologize for not having live Twitter updates during the Loonie Walk for Water event as we were having technical difficulties with the technology.

As usual, we’re quite busy this month also and that means more volunteering opportunities for our General Members!

UNICEF on Campus Floor Hockey Tournament (Nov 22, 2009) – dust off those hockey sticks because it’s hockey season again! To show off our Canadian spirit and love for the sport, we’re hosting a Floor Hockey tournament in order to raise awareness for the access of clean water for under-developed and developing nations. We need referees, time/score keepers and people to work the registration kiosk, so if you’re interested, please email one of our PMs asap. If you do not want to volunteer for this event, how about participating in the event by forming a team? Do it for a good cause, and we promise the prizes will be worth your while.

Geeks Without Sleep (Nov 24-25, 2009) – A collaboration with the VGC, teams of gamers pull off a 24-hour marathon playing games and fundraising for UNICEF. We are told that we need people to collect donations between 9am and 6pm on the 25th of November. If you’re interested in submitting a team to this event, the deadline is this friday and there is a minimum $100 pledge requirement.

International AIDS Awareness Day – Members interested in volunteering for this event will be receiving emails from their respective section leaders very soon.

That’s all for now, but a ton of information will be posted as soon as they’re available
